Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born to an aristocratic family in 1874. He was a British statesman, soldier and writer who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945. Churchill helped lead the successful Allied strategy to ultimately defeat the Axis powers and then afterwards lay the groundwork for post-war peace.
