On May 21, 1927, a little after 10 pm a small silver airplane circles the Eiffel Tower over Paris. Inside the plane, a tired young pilot checked his instrument panel with a flashlight. Everything was normal so he fastened his seatbelt and began his descent to the Le Bourget Aerodrome where he planned to land. As he rolled to a stop he was surprised to find 100,000 people waiting for him. He could hear their loud cheers of “Lindbergh! Lindbergh! Vive Lindbergh!” The previously unknown airmail pilot from Minnesota had just made history! Charles Lindbergh was just 25 and now the first solo pilot to make the nonstop 3,600 miles across the Atlantic Ocean successfully.
