On September 2, 1666, during an extremely hot summer, the City of London was burned by a great fire. Over 12,000 homes were destroyed, many churches were damaged and more than 80 percent of the building material was destroyed. No other city on earth had faced destruction like this, due to fire, since the times of the Rome Empire. The fire started as an accident in a bakery on Pudding Lane, a small street in London. As the story goes, some embers were left burning near the ovens of Mr. Thomas Farriner who was the Royal baker. Mr. Farriner and his daughter managed to get out of their house safely from an upstairs window. After the great fire, Mr. Farriner rebuilt his bakery and He and his children signed a bill falsely accusing a man named Robert Hubert of starting the fire.
